1. What I’m inspired by: Echoes from old journals. Stuck on an 11-hour flight from Cape Town to London, I shunned the screens in favour of words I had penned down over the years. Revisiting those episodes of epiphany was really uplifting. It reminded me of how and why I got here, as well as what I need to do to go further. #HighlyRecommended

2. What I’m reading: “Why listening well can make disagreements less damaging.” Because those disagreements will surely come (I got into a few recently), here I am, reminding myself of how “high-quality listening” can lead to “more positive and less polarising” results. Read with me here: https://psyche.co/ideas/why-listening-well-can-make-disagreements-less-damaging

3. What I’m excited about: The stretch of work ahead of me! It’s a counterintuitive approach to an impending overwhelm — a mental reframing of what is turning out to be a demanding second half of the term. We’ll take it one step at a time. Let’s go!

4. What I did: Spent a week of Work-cation in Cape Town! Words and images would fail to adequately capture the beauty, learning, and experience I had in the city: the mountains, ocean, food, wine, culture, and, of course, the people. This research trip was made possible by the LSE Department of Management. Meeting the artisans and change-makers, social entrepreneurs who have committed their talent, time, and resources to creating positive impact in their communities, was an affirmation and encouragement for me and the rest of the MSc. Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship cohort. There is more to be said, so expect a more detailed blog post soon!

5. What’s up: Lay-offs at The Body Shop. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/feb/20/the-body-shop-cut-300-jobs-head-office-stores-close-administration?utm_term=65d58358065050caaed220ec57c90dbf&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUK&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&CMP=GTUK_email I visited this store a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed my purchase experience and products. Now 300 jobs and almost half of its stores in the UK, including the one I visited, are going. Don’t be fooled; doing business is tough! To everyone treading this path, you are doing God’s work! We are rooting for you.

Enjoy!
