1. What I’m inspired by: The preeminence of learning. All through the week, it seemed the universe was trying to remind me of learning as a crouch start — the premium required to successfully navigate life’s changing track and field. Truthfully, it sometimes feels like too much of a price to pay, but stories like this remind me that we first learn, and then we earn. See how Mellody Hobson’s choice to first learn led her to the top of a multibillion-dollar firm here: https://lnkd.in/eaiTdrus

2. What I’m reading: In his book, Ride of a Lifetime, Bob Iger writes about how jittery he was to pitch Disney’s acquisition of Pixar to Steve Jobs. At the time, it was unthinkable and even the Board didn’t think Steve would budge. After “building up the courage to make the call,” Bob dialled Steve… and was grateful that he didn’t pick up (lol). We’ve all been there. You know the “at least I tried” rhetoric. My point, though, is that you shouldn’t let fear keep you from dialling. These guys dialled, and now they run a $16.7 billion investment firm. More here: https://lnkd.in/eUyvyNMv

3. What I’m excited about: My last stretch of essays. Phew!

4. What I did: Visited the British Museum — finally. As an Edo girl who had her secondary and university education in the remarkable city of Benin, I easily recognised the Benin artefacts, including the revered Benin Bronzes, reflecting superior craftsmanship and a rich history. Reading the story about the looting, the resistance of the Benin kingdom and the unleashed ire of the colonialists at a people who would rather die than surrender, I could identify with the sense of pride, loss and pain. My most intriguing find, however, was a 2009 commemorative shirt (aso-ebi) for the 30th anniversary of the coronation of Oba Erediauwa that had become art (?!) Talk about curation.

5. What’s up: “The Rise of the Remote Husband. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬, 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 (𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘴 𝘰𝘯).” Read in The Economist here: https://lnkd.in/enN_7HaV

Enjoy!
