1. What I’m inspired by: This article by former tennis pro Andrea Petovic, on the inevitability of attrition, the pain and loss of identity that come with the growing realisation and acceptance that your “heyday” is over. Reacting to Andy Murray’s retirement announcement, she writes that in sports (as in life), “there (are) already plenty of 18-year olds all around the world…multiplying by the hour… ready and waiting to push (you) out.” Everybody’s time will come, but she urges, “Do not go gently into that good night…rage, rage against the dying light.” By the way, Serena Williams calls it “evolving,” not “retirement.” Read article here: https://lnkd.in/eUDQdhRB

2. What I’m reading: The Rise of Neo-Luddites. I wrote about luddites in our 89th edition here: https://lnkd.in/eGcaHqcv . But this new crop of tech-sceptics has everything on its radar, from the suppression of choice to a Matrix-like apocalypse of humanity (Yeah, Neo, Morpheus, bla, bla). While the latter seems errr…, I agree with the former. I recently played bingo with a group where no one could “find someone not on social media.” Is this by choice or compulsion? Neo-Luddites think more tech is cause for alarm. More here: https://lnkd.in/eaBXYUzS

3. What I’m excited about: A trip to clear my head! It’s tough trying to achieve that balance, especially when all you want to do is go,go… I berated myself when I turned a few corners from my apartment and realised The British Museum was just about 5 minutes away, yet I had never seen nor visited it! We vow to do better.

4. What I did: Celebrated a momentous family occasion. I missed it physically, but thanks to tech, yes, tech still, I was chief attendee-in-diaspora! hashtag#Grateful

5. What’s up: International Women’s Month! Of course, the entire month is ours, 🙂 🤗 yet grossly insufficient to interrogate the diverse issues that confront women, particularly in business and career. If in doubt, take a look at this recent report in The Economist on “how motherhood hurts careers https://lnkd.in/e-WH5h5d . It’s called the “motherhood penalty — the cost of labour and love.” Happy International Women’s Month!

Enjoy!

Every Friday-ish, I do a quick round up of 5 things; What I’m Inspired by, What I’m Reading, What I’m Excited About, What I Did and What’s Up!
