The UBER-Files!#5WFs(63rd)

1. What I’m inspired by: The New Yorker interview with renowned writer, Min Jin Lee that touches everything; identity, socioeconomic class, the humiliation in pursuing one’s dream, the curse of competence and why the bible remains the ultimate inspiration beyond the purposes of sturdy writing, scandalous plots and intergalactic battles. By the end of the piece, I reached into my screen and hugged her. Read here: https://bit.ly/3PvAu2F

2. What I’m reading: The Uber Files. A trove of documents, data and dirt on how Uber dominated the world with “ruthless expansion tactics”. Several months and 120,000 files later, story custodian, The Guardian realized this project could not be handled independently and collaborated with other media houses, “for maximum impact” they say. In William Shatner’ voice, “Brace yourselves! Prepare for impact.” Here: https://bit.ly/3IIq3ql

3. What I’m excited about: It’s time! This Thursday and Friday, join me and others as we participate at the Global Bookbased Learning Summit. What to expect; Bookbased Masterclasses, High Powered Panel Session, and much more! Topics cover Politics and Governance (Love Does Not Win Elections by Ayisha Osori), Mental Health (Optimal Mental Health; An Everyday Guide by Jibril Abdulmalik), Personal Finance (Zero Balance by Titilope Ibilola). Panelists and moderators include Oyebolaji Fadase, Adenike Dosumu (CIM UK) Eghosa Imasuen, Utibe Henshaw, Busola Alofe, Joy Isa, It’s virtual. It’s free. It’s for you. Follow me here on LinkedIn to be part of this.

4. What I did: Discovered a term; Kidult! Apparently, these are “adults who enjoy youthful programming”, whether it’s Disney, video games or YA fiction. “Kidults — and their adult paychecks” drive demand for products and services otherwise created for a younger demographic; Grandparents on TikTok, StarWars Vs StarTrek enthusiasts and side-eye to those of you hitting 40 yet stuck on K-drama teen shows. See more Kidult data here: https://bit.ly/3aFmDIB

5. What’s up: Like Wordle, like Heardle! Spotify is following the steps of The New York Times with its acquisition of the music trivia game, #Heardle-one of many #Wordle spinoffs. A rhythmic yet revenue move, considering for The Times, #Wordle brought “tens of millions of new users” and upped subscriptions by 387k. Good buy! So, can you guess the song in 16 seconds? Music aficionados, head over to Heardle here: https://heardle.co/ and please, have a great weekend.

Enjoy!
